Position Title: Director, Emory Headache Center

Location: Emory University and Emory Healthcare - Atlanta, GA

Position Summary: 

Emory University and Emory Healthcare are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as INAGURAL Director of the Headache Center. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of headache care, research, and education within one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the United States. The Director will be responsible for developing and leading a multidisciplinary team in providing exemplary clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and fostering the development of the next generation of headache specialists.

Responsibilities: 

Clinical Care:

  • Provide leadership in the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based clinical care for patients with headache disorders.
  • Oversee the outpatient headache clinics and inpatient hospitalization programs, ensuring efficient, state-of-the-art, patient-centered care delivery.
  • Collaborate with other departments and specialties, including psychiatry, rehabilitation, pain medicine, neurosurgery, and the Emory Sleep Center to optimize patient outcomes and provide comprehensive care.
  • Maintain a limited clinical practice to stay connected with patient care and serve as a role model for clinical excellence and leadership.

Administrative Leadership:

  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance the patient centeredness, effectiveness, and efficiency of the Headache Center's operations.
  • Manage the budgetary and financial aspects of the Center, including resource allocation and revenue generation.
  • Recruit, mentor, and supervise clinical and administrative staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and professional growth.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including faculty, staff, patients, referring physicians, and external partners.

Teaching and Education:

  • Provide education and training to medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals on headache disorders.
  • Develop and oversee a headache fellowship program, providing comprehensive training in clinical care, research, and academic leadership.
  • Facilitate education programs for patients, their families, and caregivers.
  • Foster a culture of lifelong learning and professional development among team members.

Research:

  • Lead and participate in clinical research initiatives focused on headache disorders, with an emphasis on clinical trials.
  • Foster the inception of a basic science translational research program centered around drug development to promote advances in novel therapies for headache.
  • Work with biomedical engineering programs at Emory and Georgia Tech to facilitate device developments that impact headache disorders.
  • Develop generative augmented intelligence approaches to improve the global approach to headache medicine.
  • Secure external funding through grant applications and collaborations to support research endeavors.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications, presentations, and participation in professional conferences.

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) required, preferably with board certification in Neurology.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of GEORGIA required.
  • Subspecialty training and/or certification in headache medicine required.
  • Experience in working philanthropy and development preferred.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in the management of headache disorders.
  • Proven track record of leadership and administrative experience within an academic healthcare setting.
  • Strong commitment to education, teaching, and mentorship.
  • Established record of scholarly activity, including publications and research grants.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
